Genomic Selection and Mating Planning

What does DNA tell us about the breeding potential of our horses? Genomic selection makes it possible to assess a horse's genetic predispositions early on the basis of DNA information and to make breeding decisions in a more targeted way. Combined with mating planning, the strengths and weaknesses of mare and stallion can be taken into account in even greater detail.

Dr. Katharina Friederike Stock explains the fundamentals of genomic selection and shows what this means for practical mating planning. As the developer of a genomics-based mating planner, she gives insights into how it works and how it is used in practice.
